Information revolution is sweeping all over the world: as one of the most active, fastest growing areas with widest influence, information science and technology keeps changing our work- and life-style and makes the 21st century an "information era". Significant breakthroughs would be expected through its interdisciplinary interaction with material, life, energy, engineering, management, art and etc. Information industry has been and will keep acting as a vital driving force in promoting our national and global economy, less to mention its critical impact to various industrial sectors, agriculture, commerce, education, medicine, and national security. The information industry promotes the informatization of the whole society and creates brand-new forms of industry and service, as well as life style.
A new generation of specialized personnel is desired to meet the challenge to realize the goal of information technology enabled industrialization. They should have the correct persuasion of life, value system, patriotic dedication spirit, global vision and social responsibility. Moreover, they should have a strong passion for scientific and technological exploration and innovation, broad theoretical foundation and practical ability, rigorous and realistic style of study, courage to face challenges and perseverance to overcome difficulties, as well as a capacity for lifelong learning and sustainable development. They should also be self-confident while modest and active in team-working. School of information science and technology (hereinafter referred to as SIST) will continue our effort to develop an aggressive and harmonic atmosphere, which, we sincerely hope, will make our faculty and students contribute more and better.
The strength of SIST is in electronics, information and communication system, computer science and technology, control engineering, software engineering，as well as cyberspace security. Our research is now focused on the key enabling technologies as well as basic research in the next generation of internet, telecommunication, computer and intelligent systems, opto, nanoelectronics and etc. Our strength results in the positive contribution to the national scientific and technological innovation system and innovation-driven development strategy and close cooperation with world-class universities and enterprises. Owing to the advanced research, high-level faculty, active academic environment and advanced study facilities, our School has been continuously attracting the dedicated academia and talent young freshmen.
